6.4 Estimate Activity Resources

Process Definition

This process determines what resource quantities are needed such as human resources material resources and equipment to complete each activity. Cost analysis compares the baseline-projected costs against actual costs. Baseline- projected schedule against actual schedule. Variance documented and all project documents updated to reflect current conditions. The analysis is performed to discover if the costs or schedule is capable of being reduced.

 Process Assessment

This process determines whom to assign the task, and what materials are needed to complete the activity. How long to complete the project before resources are reassigned or terminated once the project is completed? Documenting and measuring the variance of the actual costs and schedule against the estimated projected baselines helps similar future projects avoid the same mistakes.  Counting the costs done before the execution phase to make sure the activity costs are realistic with the projected budget to complete the project deliverables.

6.4.1

Input

Resource Calendar:

The resource calendar is considered an input in determining scheduled resources when needed, based upon the resource calendar. This example is taken from MSP2010 Lesson 9.

6.4.2

Tools and Techniques

Variance Analysis 502:

This report created in PGMT 502, discusses formula techniques used to monitor and control variance.

6.4.3

Outputs

Resource breakdown Structure 611:

PGMT 611, the ITD project the new resource breakdown structure highlighted in red the organizational structure to depict an output of who would have new roles within the organization.
